Rings - Black Habit (Paw Tracks)

Remember First Nation? Well the band have lost a member, gained a member and renamed the group as Rings. Confused? Well no need to be:

First Nation were Nina Mehta, Kate Rosko and Melissa Livaudais, who released a self-titled record of loose tribal drums, vocal layers and spiralling guitars for the Paw Tracks label last Summer, as well as the glorious Coronation 7"
After Melissa left, Abby Portner (sister of Animal Collective's Dave Portner) joined and the new formation decided to ditch the First Nation alias in favour of Rings.

Now comes the interesting part; the three-piece have just finished their first album together Black Habit, which was co-produced by Rings themselves and Kristin Anna Valtysdottir (Kria Brekkan and formerly of Mum).

Este disco suena a folk alucinado y percusiones raras, pero lo mejor son las voces. Muy recomendable (a pesar de mi descripción)

en primera escucha el disco me está gustando bastante. Su pop barroco y extravagante en el que destacan las armonías vocales me ha llamado mucho la atención. Por supuesto, son carne de Primavera Sound / Club y Tanned Tin

aunque, para no tenerla allá por diciembre, solicito la presencia de andtheworldsmileswithyou, el propio -Toxinho- o alguien que esté puesto en la sala: ¿es este disco de 2008? He encontrado información que lo sitúa un año antes …

EDITO: creo que en allmusic los confunden con the rings, grupo de boston. A partir de ahí, no sé de dónde sacan la fecha ...

Protegida de David Tibet durante años (en el sello Durtro de Tibet ha venido publicando desde el año 2000 álbumes tan recomendables como “Little Window” (2000) o “Love’s Small Song” (2002), recopilados ambos el pasado año en el doble CD “The Robin’s Tiny Throat”), y en los últimos tiempos más conocida gracias a su paso por las formaciones de Antony & The Johnsons o los mismos Current 93, la artista de performance, pianista y arpista clásica (entre muchas otras cosas) Baby Dee fichaba recientemente por Drag City, y con la colaboración de músicos amigos como Will Oldham, Andrew W.K., Robbie Lee, Max Moston (Antony and the Johnsons), Bill Breeze (Psychic TV), John Contreras (Current 93), James Lo (Chavez) grababa un nuevo álbum, “Safe Inside The Day”, que verá la luz en el sello de Chicago el próximo 22 de enero.

Jason Collett - Here´s to Being Here

Here's To Being Here captures the essence of Jason's live performances and features the energy and musicianship of his touring band, Paso Mino. "This is very much an old school guitar record, in the sense of it being very tasteful...that's one of the greater accomplishments of this record" says Collett, "recording in bigger spaces and live off the floor allowed us to capture some of the band energy. This allowed for spontaneous creations, which led to many wonderful little accidents."

Here's To Being Here was recorded and produced in Collett's hometown of Toronto, Ontario, by musician/producer Howie Beck. The album also features guest performances by fellow Broken Social Scene member and Apostle of Hustle front man Andrew Whiteman, as well as long time friend Tony Scherr (Norah Jones, John Scofield, Bill Frissell) and Liam O'Neil (The Stills) to name a few.

Está visto que los canadienses se aburren mucho que sacan discos como churros al igual que los suecos.
