kode9 & the spaceape - black sun (hyperdub, 2011)

One of the first dubstep full-lengths, it arrived just as the nascent genre began to prick the wider consciousness via the likes of Digital Mystikz, Skream and Benga, and yet it stood apart, with Kode9’s bleak soundscapes and the dystopian poetry of The Spaceape sounding very different to the halfstep bangers that defined the scene at the time. Since then, dubstep has entered the mainstream consciousness, splintering in a million directions and breeding with just about any genre you care to mention – often with wince-inducing results. But as a producer, Kode9 (aka Steve Goodman) has been relatively quiet, concentrating on his label Hyperdub (including the rise of protégé Burial), DJing and writing a weighty tome entitled Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect and the Ecology Of Fear. > > Black Sun follows on logically from 2009’s single of the same name, which sounded like a major departure at the time. An instrumental club track influenced by the then-new UK funky sound, it was lighter in tone, characterised by bright synths and skippy, syncopated beats. The track reappears here in a retooled – and superior – ‘Partial Eclipse Version’, the centrepiece of a record that is much more varied in tone and tempo than the debut. The Spaceape remains on doom-laden, ominous form, but he is used more sparingly for maximum impact, and cooing female vocals appear on several tracks courtesy of Shanghai-based singer Cha Cha. As well as the club-friendly title track, the likes of ‘Love Is The Drug’ (no, not a Roxy Music cover), ‘Neon Red Sign’ and ‘Green Sun’ further explore the nexus between garage, house and dubstep, and there are even a couple of evocative, beatless instrumentals – ‘Hole In The Sky’ and the Flying Lotus collaboration ‘Kryon’. > > But while the focus this time is more on Goodman’s varied talents as a producer than The Spaceape’s apocalyptic presence, fans of Memories… will have plenty to hold on to, and the MC is at his terrifying best on the fierce ‘Am I’ and ‘Bullet Against Bone’. Yo no he notado mucho que se llene más de lo habitual en esas situaciones, a la 1.30 para mi es demasiado pronto, ayer en Hell entré a las 2.20 i estaba semivacio, se peto mas tarde, aunque te digo una cosa, el tiron de lo hoy es una incognita total, pero si tomamos como referencia el dia de Skream o Scuba, que pueden tener el mismo publico, entrando a las 2.20 no tendrás problema.

En mi opinion tan bien como mal le hizo el dubstep a la escena electronica, tanto que la colapso un poquin y todo lo que salia desde 2006 hasta hace un año y pico era dubstep.
Parece que ese tsunami se ha calmado.
Pero bueno es mi opinion y es uno de los factores asi como una manera llevada a lo mas simple de ver un poco las cosas.

Yo sin tratar de ofender a nadie, que ya veo que sois unos fanáticos del dubstep y sus variantes, más que resurgir de la electrónica veo una saturación de dubstep, postdubstep, overdupstep y másdubstep, todo suena a dubstep, que rollo…
Pero esto no suena a dubstep, sino a detroit y es la ostia
