The Yellow Moon Band - Travels Into Several Remote Nations of the World (2009)

Yellow Moon Band are bound to attract comparisons to bands like Focus, tapping into the sort of instrumental Euro-prog sounds that have never been particularly in favour among the under-45s. This is tremendous stuff though and is, in truth, only a few degrees away from sounding like the untouchably cool psych-rock of Voice Of The Seven Woods or Six Organs Of Admittance, but there's that intangible Tommy Vance factor presiding over Yellow Moon Band - perhaps their music is all a bit too regimented (and meticulously executed) to be acceptable in polite company, but there's a great deal of intricacy, accomplishment and all-round charm to be uncovered in Travels Into Several Remote Nations Of The World. Furthermore, despite the protracted nature of prog, this album clocks in at a surprisingly humble thirty-five minutes, and highlights like 'Chimney; and 'Entangled' somehow manage to maintain succinctness, hovering around the two-to-three minute mark. Desde luego, para decir que Franz Ferdinand se repiten en este disco, sólo es necesario no haberlo escuchado. Un interesante avance y una buena colección de canciones (con 'Bite Hard' probablemente a la cabeza).
Lo que yo todavía no sé si dar por válido son los 7 minutos del 'Lucid Dreams', ya que no se parece mucho al adelanto de hace unos meses que sacaron y conviene recordar que con la edición del disco se regalará otro con versiones dub de cada uno de los temas. Vamos, que hasta que no vea la edición física no sé yo si no nos la habrán colado en la filtración con la pista del CD2 de tal tema. Que conste, eso sí, que la versión extendida me parece un puntazo.

Legendary guitarist: Scott 'Wino' Weinrich (SaintVitus, Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Place of Skulls, The HiddenHand) has an albums worth of 'solo' recordings in the works.Assisting Wino will on the album will be Jean-Paul Gaster(Clutch) on drums and Jon Blank (Rez n) on bass. The albumwill be called: 'Punctuated Equilibrium' and tracks arecurrently being layed down with J. Robbins (producer of theHidden Hands: 'Mother Teacher Destroyer') in Maryland. El Goodo combines the mellow and melodious psychedelic sounds of the Beach Boys, The Byrds and Love with beautiful and lush arrangements that call upon the mystical countryside from whence they came. The result is the creation of a mysterious, sweepingly grand, and at times whimsical approach to their already eclectic soundscape. Their intoxicating sophomore release, Coyote, due January 2009 (Grease Records), is both sprawling and hauntingly deserted, evoking a sonic landscape both richly cultivated and desolate, with intensely poetic harmonies and darkly articulated instrumentation. “Aren’t You Grand”, “I Saw Her Today”, “Talking to the Birds”, and “Oh, to Sleep” feel cinematic, like a dark western cowboy soundtrack, juxtaposing surfy and at times summery melodies to create an ominous score. “Feel So Fine”, “Be My Girl”, and “I Can’t Make It” continue in El Goodo’s knack for beautiful beach harmonies, but opt for psych-breakouts and breakdowns reminiscent of efforts by Olivia Tremor Control and Lansic Dreiden. I wish we were Pitchfork. I mean, I wish we were Pitchfork back last year or whatever when it could give something an ‘8.6’ and then that band would be immediately elevated to indie rock and roll stardom, I think the last people to do that were The Dodos or Fleet Foxes, which is maybe why I stopped trusting them so much (lol). But I wish we could be Pitchfork because then I could review this - this record by this band Eagle and Talon who I can barely find anything about even on the internet and rocket them to immediate indie rock and roll stardom because it really is that good.
But anyway what I heard when I was listening blind was this: I heard a band, I figured about four people, probs all girls for some reason- it wasn’t just the girl singer, it was the general Sleater-Kinneyery vibe that got me casting the most presumptions around about their gender. Guitar, bass, keyboard, drums? Probs. Coming out of some space in America. What I heard was also really really good. …only misstep being when they do that “brief silence then bonus track” thing on ‘We Were Figs’ (great title mind) at the end, which is never, ever acceptable. EVER.
“Eagle and Talon are an indie/art girl band made of wool. Their instrumentation includes guitar, drums, bass + casio. They currently live in LA.” There are two of them and they are called Kim and Alice. This is everything I know about Eagle and Talon. “Made of wool” is an amazing description of two people in a band though. NOW BUY THIS RECORD AND MAKE THEM HUGE. 86%
