      36 - Hollow (3six Recordings 2010)
      ambient

      @2czd5p09:

      "Hollow" is the 2nd studio album from 36 and continues the journey started by "Hypersona", delivering 13 tracks of new material.

      Tracks such as "Hollow" and "Equassa" explore new sonic territory, featuring heavily processed guitar and vintage strings, drifting over the emotive soundscapes you've come to expect from the artist. Other tracks such as "Darkroom Distortion" and "Geiga" use turbulent sheets of white noise, alongside classical instruments to create an eerie, almost ghostlike quality.

        myrmyr - The Amber Sea (Digitalis, 2009)
        modern classical / ambient / dark folk / drone

        @w60c1osd:

        Try and imagine the kind of broken drones and edgy experimentation Ben Frost makes crossed with the strings of Hildur Gudnadottir and the sea shanties of Matt Elliott and you'll get some ideas of the incredible, deeply original music of Myrmyr This Oakland duo brings together Agnes Szelag with Marielle Jakobsons (aka Darwinsbitch) for a debut album consisting of incredible modified sea shanties, cinematic-style ensemble pieces and folk/drone hybrids that have just blown our minds. 'Jurata' opens the album with a suspenseful opacity, loaded with string and harmonium drones while vocals drift along in a ghostly, haunting fashion. Somewhere in the background percussion jostles, occasionally sounding like faulty central heating, and ultimately making a seamless transition into 'Baltic WInds', whose fractured bowed tones make for a semi-conscious soundscape while electro-static, processed bells clang and cascade around the edges. 'First Seed' is a far more clear-cut affair, concentrating on the tightly orchestrated confluence of cello, clarinet, flute and trombone for a deep and cinematic piece of music. From here on the sophistication and depth of variation in this music only seems to heighten: 'Egle's Escape' presents a dark avant-folk universe (bringing to mind Mi & L'au, Pantaleimon and Espers all at once), while the string melodies and wonderful, thorny harp textures of 'Dancing In Captivity' suggest a kind of gothic avant-garde. Perhaps best of all, at the centre of this album lies 'The Sea Returns', a radiant fifteen minute composition that starts out as a tentative ambient excursion - full of lulling drones and fragmented instrumental eruptions - only to seemingly wake up after a few minutes of languid swirling, eventually developing into a complex soundscape full of euphoric dissonance, spurts of noise and plenty of harmonic flair. There's a tremendous amount to take in here and you won't be able to absorb even half of this album upon first listen, but in terms of its vision, and the roving musical dexterity on show throughout, it's one of the most unique and absorbing albums we've heard this year. Essential Purchase. - boomkat

        Siento desvirtuar el hilo con grabaciones lejos de drones oscuros y maquinales.

                                @2egqgbkc:

                                Brand new full-length vinyl LP from Natural Snow Buildings' Mehdi Ameziane's solo project. This is the third vinyl release from Twinsistermoon since last summer's The Hollow Mountain LP and Bride of Spirits 7" which were both released on the excellent Dull Knife label. Following on from these two gems, as well as various obscure self-released discs and CDs on Digitalis and Students of Decay, Ameziane's sound has grown somewhat darker at times with this brand new LP featuring nearly 50 minutes of new material.

                                The A-side features 6 tracks, whereas the B-side is a huge almost 25-minute track. The opening track "Black Nebulae" is a gorgeously textured psychedelic drone-based piece, followed by a short, quieter, guitar-plucked piece with vocals but no words entitled "1976." "Ghost That Was Your Life" is a stunning beautiful layered guitar piece with Ameziane's astounding beautiful vocals shining through. "Big Sand" opens as one of the darker pieces, with an occult feeling to its sound, swirling vocal drones, almost like a choir at times, and in come those stunning warm and distinctive guitar sounds with layered ghostly soundscapes that haunt much of Ameziane's solo and NSB recordings. Halfway through this track it fades into layered field recordings, drones, and distant chimes—the sound of this track at this point just has a real melancholy vintage sound—the last two minutes are again a change of sound with a slow plucking of guitar strings. "Desert Prophecy" returns of the sound of just Ameziane and his guitar, with some lo-fi electric riffing distortion in the background. It's pretty incredible to hear this and think that it's from 2010, and not from the 60s or 70s. The sixth and final track on the first side is "Trailer," another beautiful somewhat lighter folk sound, which is interesting considering the following is the album's title track "Then The Ashes Fell," a side-long track which is a considerably darker and heavier than much of the rest of the LP, but weaves in some beautiful lighter more reflective moments.

                                  (Temporary Residence, 2010)

                                  @1uquoabq:

                                  In the past dozen years, Kenseth Thibideau has become a staple of the Southern California independent music scene. He co-founded a pair of highly-acclaimed experimental rock groups (Tarentel and Rumah Sakit) while in San Francisco, then returned to San Diego to find himself suddenly collaborating with many of the city’s most respected and acclaimed musicians. He soon became a touring member of Pinback and Three Mile Pilot, and formed Sleeping People, the frenetic instrumental group that also featured a pre-Dirty Projectors Amber Coffmann—all while continuing his semi-solo Howard Hello project with Marty Anderson (Okay, Dilute). No longer masked in monikers, Thibideau is making what may be the most subtly rewarding music of his career, displaying the countless strengths of one of the west coast’s most genuinely talented musicians.

                                  How apt that the track list for Repetition, Kenseth Thibideau’s solo debut, relies so heavily on space imagery. “Black Hole,” “Eclipse,” a handful of numbered “Moon” tracks — the overall feeling is like reading the instructions of a child’s mobile illustrating the cosmos. That sense of vast space, perhaps beheld with a kind of innocent wonder, is at play throughout this album, inviting you to wander through each soft track and lose yourself in the placidity of it. The risk with a record like this is actually getting lost, while the artist in question becomes absorbed in impenetrable sound experiments.
                                  But that’s not a worry with Thibideau, whose music is always accessible, even as instrumentals. They are indeed spacey, but without being cold or remote. On the contrary, the quiet keyboard effects, punctuated by reverb-tinged guitars and airy vocals, remind the listener of Pinback — a band, incidentally, that Thibideau played in for a while. The other major act he’s known for is artsy space-rock group Tarantel, and fans of either can safely pick this up and enjoy it.

                                  Opening track “Black Hole” sets the mood for the record with half-whispered lyrics and muted, meditative rock. “Moon 2″ offers a very different side to Thibideau: an urgent, bass-driven song that even has some groove to it. It shatters the calm introspection on the album, though it could use a few more tracks like this to liven the general mood.

                                  Overall, Repetition does live up to its name. Occasionally it fades into atmospheric background noise, but for the most part, there’s enough going on in each track to keep up that pensive mood.

                                          ambient, sus tres primeros discos de principios de los 90 remasterizados, suena bastante mejor la verdad.

                                            Se avecina una invasión teen en el género drone. Un chaval de 20 años que se hace llamar Shamantis ha colgado en soundcloud un tema de un ídolo adolescente americano (Justien Beiber) tras pasarlo por un programa llamado PaulStrech que lo ha dejado 8 veces más lento y muy muy próximo a cosas como Fennesz.

                                            El tema, que se ha quedado en la nada despreciable cifra de 35 minutos, lleva (en estos momentos) medio millón de escuchas en tan sólo un día, su autor fue trending topic en Twitter durante el día de ayer, y tiene a la blogosfera temblando.

                                            Podéis escucharlo aquí:

                                            Droneros, ya podéis salir huyendo.
