el tropicalismo es un estilo del cual no he llegado a meterme del todo. Ahora con la mula y una previa investigación trataré de bajarme cosas. Pero siq ue habia oido cosas antiguas de Gil y, sobre todo, Ben, el cual era el que más me gustaba de todos. Tiene discos con infleuncia funk muy buenos. Pero la piedra angular del asunto es Veloso. Me gustará averiguar cosas de él pero de la primeras época, alejadas del tono melifluo y tontorrón actual.
Por cierto, ¿conoces a Vinicius Cantuaria? Es la leche con patatas. Te recomiendo el Sol Na Cara (de una belleza impresionante y con Arto Linsay & Ruichi Sakamoto detras) y el Tucuma. Son los dos que tengo y creo que me pondre a bajarme los demas. Te vas a derritir. Hubiera sido genial verlo en el Auditori. Yo lo vi en La Paloma y estuvo bastante bien. -

Howe Gelb 'Sno Angels Like You
Howe Gelb cambia el desierto de Tucson por la nieve de Ottawa. Grabado durante el crudo invierno canadiense con la colaboración del coro gospel Voices Of Praise, el aroma a tierra mojada remoza por los cuatro costados. En el 2003 Howe Gelb tocó en una iglesia formando parte del cartel del Blues Festival. Entre actuaciones un coro gospel amenizaba las esperas y a Gelb se le iluminó una bombilla. Las canciones fueron grabadas por Howe Gelb sin la participación del coro (siete nuevos temas, tres viejas canciones de Giant Sand y tres compuestos por el desaparecido bluesman y amigo de Gelb, Rainer Ptacek). Posteriormente, los arreglos y voces de Voices of Praise fueron añadidas.
El resultado es angelical.

El disco es impresionante, con una fuerza demoledora y con la delicadeza que aporta el coro gospel. Desde luego uno de esos discos (y conciertos) especiales y quizás irrepetibles. Llevo una parte del día colgado al disco cual mono y me resisto a bajar de las ramas…

Los entrevisté hace dos sábados ya q tocaban el viernes pasado en Manresa.
¿Qué tal ha ido la entrevista?
El disco no está tan mal pero no es mi estilo.
Me fue bien la entrevista. Un poco rara pero por mi culpa. -
Bien, bien.
Segundo trabajo de este joven cuarteto de Montreal. Para ello recrean, de forma exclusiva, esta pieza de Recih. El resultado es corto porque la pieza no llega a los 28 minutos, pero artísticamente hablando la interpretación es, sencillamente, prodigiosa. La pieza cuenta las experiencias vividas por el propio Reich durante 1939 a 1942, cuando se traslado de una forma regular de New York a Los Angeles para vivir con sus padres divorciados. La pieza esta dividida en tres partes y en ella también encontraremos referencias al Holocausto judio y a las reacciones que ello provocó en los europeos que vivian en USA en esos días. Junto al cuarteto de cuerda hay grabaciones. Un excelente disco, sín duda alguna, hecha por un grupo de calidad.

Cuarto volumen de la ya importantisima serie de dobles cd's que el sello belga Sub Rosa esta editando desde hace 4 años. Obras, algunas de ellas raras y otras especialmente realizadas para este disco, que van desde el año 1937 hasta el año pasado. Quizas en este volumen se haya huido de los nombres más conocidos que estaban presentes en los dos volumenesanteriores para pasar a una serie de artistas menos conocidos pero primordiales, quizás enun intento para igualar el grandioso resultado de su increible primer volumen. Y no hay que pensarselo mucho para decir que este cuarto volumen esta a la altura de ese primer disco. Y es que un disco que contiene todo esto no puede por más que ser catalogado de inmenso:

Nuevo asalto de los finlandeses más internacionales (con permiso de Pan Sonic, claro) a todo lo que su pais representa. Metal ultra rápido, incluso alejandose un poco de su últimos trabajos derivados hacia el War. Hay canciones en este disco mucho más inclinadas hacia el género madre del asunto: el trash.
Contundente como siempre, esto es lo que vendran a presentar en España dentro de unas semanas. -
El sello americano Silber a reeditado The Burning Circle And Then Dust de Lycia, editado hace años por Projekt. La reedición incluso alcanza la portada. Según reza la cosa,la reedición a corrido a cargo del propio lider del grupo, Mike VanPortfleet y resume el doble disco original en uno sencillo volviendo al aidea original del grupo. Por esos caprichos del destino, este disco que vio la luz en 1995 sigue conservando esa aire impresionante que lo convirtió, junto al grupo, en uno de los nombre de culto de la escena darkwave americana, con un sonido que tenia como fuente primigenia el de los Cocteau Twins. Sigue sonando maravilloso.

¡¡que buena Girl in the war!! este album promete

A mí me tiene enganchadísimo. Muy adecuado para quedarse empanado mirando a través de la ventana de mi onceavo piso como la nieve cae sobre la ciudad. "Wolves" es el éxito más inmediato, pero el verdadero éxtasis son los casi diez minutos de "Thin Blue Flame". La fórmula es simple, pero el resultado es muy fino. Me pone muy palote el estilo predicador-cuentacuentos. Para muestra, la letra de "Thin Blue Flame":

Polished on a mountain range
And over hills and fields I flew
Wrapped up in a royal blue
I flew over Royal City last night
A bullfighter on the horns of a new moon’s light

Grrrauuu. Muerte y destrucción al estado español y en especial a tu pedanía. Tienes el link del disco entero arriba, y una letra para estar entretenida durante un buen rato. ¿Para qué quieres una crítica si puedes escuchar el disco entero?
Ahora me estoy bajando el disco de una tal Jenny Lewis. Todo apunta a que va a ser un truñaco de escándalo, pero no he podido evitarlo tras el momento frikandel* que he tenido al divisar tanta carne fresca concentrada:
