Quintron - Sucre Du Sauvage

@34ph8gvm:
Double vinyl LP pressing. 2011 album from multi-instrumentalist Robert
Rolston AKA Quintron. Imagine being a kid in 2010 and finding yourself on a
trip to the famous New Orleans Museum of Art. You pass by the Rodin sculpture
on the grand marble stairway and the vaults of ancient Japanese pottery on
the third floor; you breeze through the French impressionists, the Faberge
collection, the Joseph Cornell and the Warhols in the modern wing. Then
suddenly you pass through a soundproof glass door into a room with a crazed
looking person wearing headphones, banging on an organ and screaming into an
old microphone. Is this an exhibit? The cacophonous display is indeed behind
a velvet rope with a sign cautioning us not to speak to the screaming man.
Why do portraits of sexy ladies cover every inch these solemn white walls?
What the @#!& is going on here? Witness the recording of the latest Quintron
album, Sucre du Sauvage (Sugar of the Savage).Experimental/Math/Noise Rock

The Fresh & Onlys - Secret Walls ep [Sacred Bones, 2011]

@3s33a2mf:
The Fresh & Onlys have had an unusually prolific past couple of years. On the heels of their critically acclaimed album Play It Strange, the band returns with a bold creative leap forward on their new EP Secret Walls. The cavernous opening sounds of Secret Walls reveal the strong threads of hazy post-punk melancholy that have been woven throughout the band’s catalog and have now fully matured.
Tim Cohen’s crooning baritone is more confident and commanding than ever as it is sewn into the dizzying tapestry of melody, while the guitar sounds of Wymond Miles often suggest the dynamic interplay of Verlaine/Lloyd. Long in the works, this EP was recorded in guitarist Miles’ San Francisco studio and properly captures their ambience while bringing forward Kyle Gibson’s lock-step drumming and the unique melodic play of bassist Shayde Sartin. It is the next logical step for the F&O’s and their moody, jangly guitar pop.
Last year’s Play It Strange was received with wide acclaim from an enormous amount of press outlets including Spin Magazine. It was also #29 on Pitchfork’s top 50 albums of the year. The Fresh & Onlys toured with Deerhunter and Clinic, and performed at the Matt Groening curated ATP in Minehead England. Heralded as “one of rock’s hardest working bands,” they head out on tour this Spring, playing a handful of shows at SXSW and then embarking on a North American tour in April, and a full European tour in May, culminating with a performance at the Primavera Festival in Barcelona.

Spectre Folk - The Blackest Medicine Vol. II [Woodsist, 2011]

@3i9w0c88:
Spectre Folk is the pet project of Magik Markers dude Pete Nolan. "Blackest Medicine Vol 2" is a beautiful collection of hazy folk/psych jams that fits perfectly into the Woodsist catalog. Nolan assembled an amazing group of musicians for his latest release, including Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) on drums, Pete Meehan (The Grey Lady) on guitar, and Aaron Mullan (Tall Firs) on bass. Pete Nolan, Pete Meehan, Aaron Mullan and Steve Shelley made this record.
Jeremy Earl did the art. Recorded at Echo Canyon, except for parts of A1, which were recorded at home.Magik Markers' Elisa Amborgio has this to say about the record:
"The band entered Echo Canyon West with the intention of recording a 7-inch of the up-tempo version of “The Blackest Medicine,” the title cut from the 2007 home-fi Woodsist debut. After several sessions, they emerged with a four-song studio collage monster that won’t fit in your locker and smells like smoked banana peels and undies blowing down an alleyway. A vibraphone, piano, and a plate reverb unit the size of a Brooklyn apartment were all employed by the Spectre like Uri Gellar used spoons—inappropriately, desperate and bent."http://www.mediafire.com/?il00kd547c66ffr
