The Backward Path marks a departure for Dan Melchior in a number of ways. It is his first album to feature other musicians since his time with the Broke Revue, and it also marks a change in his songwriting methods, with more heartfelt sentiments being expressed rather than the usual flood of snide non sequiturs. It is also a quieter album, without much of the “did he mean it to sound like that?” sonic onslaught of Catbirds and Cardinals.
Dan’s wife Letha Rodman Melchior was diagnosed with cancer in late 2010, and since then the couple has been on something of an emotional roller coaster. This comes through in the lyrics of the songs on The Backward Path and is augmented beautifully by the contributions of C. Spencer Yeh (violin), Haley L. Fohr (vocals), Anthony Allman (keyboards), Ela Orleans (vocals, keyboards and guitar), and Sam Hillmer (Saxophone).
The vocal pieces are broken up with instrumentals that are nearest in tone to the “songs” on Dan’s acclaimed LP on Kye, Excerpts and Half Speeds, giving some room for the vocal pieces to sink in. The final result has more in common with Sister Lovers than Guitar Wolf, and we hope you will find this decidedly adventurous, but emotionally engaging music as satisfying as Dan found it to make.

For me, releasing an album is no casual affair. I've been contemplating this record for 8 years, since the release of my last one. Some of these songs I started to play live as early as 2007. If you're a fan of my music from Soft Commands or earlier, you've been a part of this journey and I think you'll agree that this release should have no small fanfare. Life is short and we don't know…will I make another one? I hope to make this one count and to reward those of you who have been patient with my slow creative process I have added some incentives for justifying that you don't wait one minute more. I've made some extra items including a vinyl single with a unique, only-available-here track called "The Well" which was just recorded in Cordoba days ago (next to a very old well--they say: "write what you know"), the first ever Ken Stringfellow T shirt, and of course the album in all its digital and analog glory. Hi quality double vinyl cut by the lab coat wearing geeks at Abbey Road. CDs with deluxe packaging, both wrapped in intricate artwork by some of Holland's most cutting edge illustrators and designers.

Ringo Deathstarr formed in 2007 in their native Austin, Texas channeling influences such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Swirlies and the Jesus and Mary Chain. They initially released a batch of singles on both sides of the Atlantic and in Japan – a self-titled EP in 2007 and in 2009, a brace of 7”s in the States, You Don’t Listen & In Love.
Their critically acclaimed debut album, Colour Trip, was released in February 2011 and a compilation of their early singles, Sparkler, which had initially been available in Japan only, was released in the autumn of 2011. Their latest album, Mauve, produced by Elliott Frazier from the band, was recorded at The Bubble in Austin, Texas and Skylab in Los Angeles in the spring of 2012.

Melody’s Echo Chamber is the name given to the work of Paris-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Melody Prochet. Possessing a penchant for wild-eyed psychedelia, homespun motorik rhythm and an effortless flair for the sort of melodic classicism redolent of chamber song, Prochet is at once both an aficionado of pop’s outer limits and off-kilter to its expectations.
Her eponymous debut album, recorded between Perth (with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker) and her grandparents’ beach house in Cavalière in France, is due for release through Weird World in the autumn of 2012. More news to follow very soon!
