...the united arab emirates has been creating artificial islands and theme parks of terrifying scale. they are creating the ultimate experience bubbles to bring in european, american and no doubt, saudi tourist spending in hopes of regaining losses when their oil is due to run out in a decade. these islands come complete with their own theme park (sea village on one of the palm islands), luxury hotels, sports clubs, shopping, etertainment, and diving sites/water activites (i would not go near this water).

"Any of you still remember when McD launched the Hello Kitty couple soft toys a few years back? If you dont remember nevermind ... but a few years back people were queing up just to buy the whole series of Helloy Kitty sost toys.

Response had been so good in Singapore till people are willing to kill and fight for it. I think someone was hurt in Singapore fighting for Hello Kitty collectable dolls. Some even queue up for days just to get buy those Hello Kitty soft toys.

But nowadays it seems that the trend actually slowed down by alot, we dont force ourself to eat McD on a daily basis just because they introduced some new collectable Snoopy/Hello Kitty figurines anymore.

Recently Eva Air launched a new concept incorporating Hello Kitty in their fleet, its kinda like the Airplane with a theme lidat la .... The Hello Kitty Airline!!! 1st of its kind, this brings the pink-est and cutest Hello Kitty merchandise outta shelves and into the planes! El otro día me gasté 33 lerdos en el Altaïr para pillarme esta joya. Se trata de un libro de fotografías de la bella urbe de Pyongyang y sus habitantes, con el interés añadido de estar escrito con el beneplácito y la aquiescencia del gobierno norcoreano. O sea, que los pies de página, los textos que acompañan a las fotografías y -sobre todo- la introducción van de lo surrealista a lo hilarante. A ver si me acuerdo el miércoles y os transcribo un par de párrafos selectos. De momento una foto que he encontrado en el gúguel:

Observarán ustedes la seriedad y la rigidez de la moza que está posando en la Biblioteca del Pueblo (sí, los dos pollos de la foto de la pared del fondo son quienes utedes se imaginan). Pues bien, todos los personajes fotografiados se muestran de esta misma manera hierática e inmóvil. Como autómatas. En efecto, da hasta un poco de miedo. Vale, bastante miedo (recordemos que esta buena gente sí que tienen la bomba)…

Everything you know is wrong.

What most people know about the inheritance of eye color is that brown comes from a dominant gene (needing one copy only) and blue from a recessive gene (needing two copies). University of Queensland geneticist Rick Sturm suggests that the genetics are not so clear. “There is no single gene for eye color,” he says, “but the biggest effect is the OCA2 gene.” This gene, which controls the amount of melanin pigment produced, accounts for about 74 percent of the total variation in people’s eye color.

Sturm has recently shown that the OCA2 gene itself is influenced by other genetic components. After gene-typing about 3,000 people, Sturm found that how OCA2 is expressed—and how much pigment a person has—is strongly linked to three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), or single letter variations, in a DNA sequence near the OCA2 gene. That suggests a more complicated story than the blue-recessive/brown-dominant model of eye color. “For example, among individuals carrying the SNP sequence “TGT” at all three locations on both copies of the gene, 62 percent were blue-eyed,” says Sturm’s colleague David Duffy. By contrast, only 21 percent of individuals carrying only one TGT copy at each location and 7.5 percent of those lacking the TGT entirely had blue eyes.

Depending on the particular combination of SNPs inherited, a person can have a range of OCA2 activity that lands them on the spectrum between blue and brown eyes. What about green eyes? “Green eyes probably represent the interaction of multiple variants within the OCA2 and in other genes, including perhaps the red-hair gene,” Duffy says.

la peli esa de The Hoff es un italo-plagio de la guerra de las galaxias hecho en 1979. Si a alguien le interese se llama "Starcrash" y circula por la mula (creo que hasta con subtítulos en español).

A mi el diario gratuito "Qué!" no me parece muy distante al Noticias del Mundo. Lo peor es que el "Qué!" toca temas sociales con la misma frivolidad que el otro hablaba de frikadas banales.
